Face Collage Craft

MATERIALS:

Face and Features Cut Out

Paste, Glue, or Tape

This was a fun and easy craft that helped Finn review the parts of face, as well as use his fine motor skills to paste them on the blank face. One big thing to remember is this, like all arts and craft, is process over product (look for a blog entry on that!). The process of making and creating is more important than the final product. So don't worry if your child's face ends up looking like something Picasso created, it's all part of the fun!

I prepped by cutting out all the features we would need and the face. For Finns face I added some curls to make it look more like him.

We began looking at all the features and saying their names. I asked Finn to point to the features on his own face as well as mine. It takes more awareness to point to their own features so if they are having trouble with that have them continue to point to yours and have them point to a dolls features so they begin to understand everyone has these features in the same place!

Next was the fun part (fun for Finn not so much for me!) pasting on the features. If I were to do it again I would use sticky glue dots with Finley instead of a glue stick. The glue stick was very distracting to Finley and all he wanted to do was put his finger in it. It took a lot of redirection and patience to get Finn to paste on the features.

In the end we had a cool face with all his features (minus one eyebrow for Finns face, it was lost in the redirection away from the glue). As you can see, there are two completed faces. We had a buddy over that day, 2.5 years old, who also made one. He was much better with the glue stick at his age.

You can find the link to the printable face and features we used under the Links tab at the top of the page. Thanks for reading and if you try this activity let me know how it goes for you!
