Apple Sorting (and Stacking?)
We are (finally) back from vacation and after nearly a month off we are back at it! The good thing about homeschooling (more so in grade school years) is you can pause and pick back up where ever you like!
We had a wonderful time visiting family and Finn loved seeing his cousins. He is the oldest but only by a little, so they all enjoyed this fun activity my grandma put together for me!
MATERIALS: Red and Green Apples
Baskets (colored red or green or lay a piece of red and green paper in them)
This activity is all about sorting out objects based on color. It sounds like a simple concept but for young children it can be a task! We started by showing them that the apples matched the baskets and put on apple in. Cousin Will dived right in and began trying to sort. With some help and redirection he began to get the idea. Even cousin Mina enjoyed throwing the apples in!
When you introduce a new concept do not expect them to pick it up right away. It can take a few introductions before children begin to understand. So if they don't understand just roll with it and let the activity progress however it will. In our case it progressed into apple stacking!
That's one way to turn this into a gross motor activity! Overall this was a fun activity that was enjoyed by all the toddlers. They snacked on apples for days!
